Trojans Suffer Home Sweep

WAKEFIELD – With the Lewis & Clark Conference Tourney and a road triangular at Homer taking over the end of the regular season for Wakefield, the Trojans began a three-game home stretch Tuesday night.

From the Wakefield Community School main gymnasium, Wakefield welcomed in Ponca.

Ponca won the opening set 25-15 but the final two sets were back-and-forth favoring the visiting Indians (26-24, 25-23) for the sweep. After dropping three of their past four matches, Ponca improved to 12-9 while Wakefield dropped their second straight match falling to 13-9.

Alex Arenas recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs while Jordan Metzler finished with a double-double using 19 set assists and 18 digs. Daveigh Munter McAfee added 13 kills and a dig; Aishah Valenzuela posted a team-high 23 digs; Katie Borg tallied 12 digs; Olivia Donner had 11 set assists and eight digs; Makenna Decker had five kills and a dig; Destiny Helzer totaled two digs as Alice Brown rounded out the kill department with three.

Wakefield used five service aces led by Donner with two as Borg, Metzler and Arenas all had an ace. Helzer and Arenas both had a block.

Wakefield will next host Creighton on Thursday, October 7.
