OMAHA, NE — The National Weather Service has now upped the amount of snowfall predicted in the Omaha and Lincoln areas — with the highest levels reaching as much as 12 inches.
Lincoln reported light snow already today before noon.
For Omaha, so far it’s just been a mix of fog and freezing drizzle, with a bit of freezing rain. But the snow in the Omaha area is expected to start around 2 p.m., said Meteorologist Katie Gross.
“There could be a time where there’s maybe even three inches an hour,” Gross said.
The storm is still expected to carry into the night and early Sunday morning, with some blowing snow to follow.
“If at all possible, stay off the roads,” Gross said. “It’s not good to travel during a blizzard warning, so just stay home and stay safe.”
Earlier today, the constant drizzle that started last night made for slick sidewalks and driveways in the Omaha area and beyond.
The City of Omaha advises drivers to expect slick conditions, according to its website. Main street conditions are generally clear with some slick spots, but residential and side streets may be partially covered in snow and ice.
