Omaha motorcyclist dies following Pottawattamie County crash

A 68-year-old motorcyclist died at an Omaha hospital Saturday following a crash near Loveland, Iowa, in Pottawattamie County.

Paul Lund of Omaha was pronounced dead at the Nebraska Medical Center. The one-vehicle crash was reported at 5:55 p.m. along Old Lincoln Highway south of Loveland, according to investigators from the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office.

Speed appeared to be a factor in the collision, said Cpl. John Cool of the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office. The motorcycle was heading south on Old Lincoln Highway when it went off the road and into a ditch on the west side about 6 p.m., Cool said.

Lund was alone on the motorcycle and had not been wearing a helmet, the corporal said. Helmets are not required by Iowa law.
