Wayne State College Begins NSIC South Division Play, Women’s Game Carried On Wildcat Sports Network

WAYNE – After the Wayne State College women opened their season on the road and the men from Rice Auditorium last weekend, the two teams will switch locations and face their first south division opponent.

WSC will face Concordia-St. Paul on Friday and Saturday, January 8 – 9. The 0-2 Wildcat men will visit 1-1 CSP at 6 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday from the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minnesota while the 1-1 Wayne State women will host the Golden Bears Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

All home Wayne State College NSIC basketball games will be carried on the Wildcat Sports Network and waynedailynews.com. Join Voice of the Wildcats, Aaron Scheffler on The City ‘KCTY’ 98.9/1590 Friday at 6 p.m. and then on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 Saturday at 2 p.m. for the women’s games.

The Wildcat women began their season with a 77-53 loss and 81-73 win at Northern State last weekend while the Golden Bears opened 2-0 with home wins over Minnesota Crookston 95-32 and 54-53. Last season, WSC and CSP split their two meetings with each team winning on the road. WSC won 83-74 in St. Paul followed by an 81-80 win by CSP in Wayne three weeks later.

Wayne State College athletics will allow just immediate family members into Rice Auditorium for this weekend’s games as the school and the Nebraska State College system continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic. There will be no ticket sales and no visiting fans will be permitted this weekend.

Face coverings will be required by staff and all spectators entering Rice Auditorium. Once in Rice Auditorium, a mask must be worn at all times except for when you are eating or drinking. Limited concessions will be available in Rice Auditorium.

Seating will only be available in the balcony of Rice Auditorium and fans will be asked to sit in family groups and social distance from others as hand sanitizing stations will be available for spectator use.

The Wayne State men will open NSIC South Division play on the road at Concordia-St. Paul.

The Wildcats suffered home losses to #8 Northern State last weekend (66-62 and 64-51) while the Golden Bears are 1-1 after splitting their non-conference games at Minnesota Crookston (80-56 win and 84-80 OT loss) from the North Division last weekend.

Last season, the two teams split their meetings with each team winning on the road – WSC won 66-63 in St. Paul and three weeks later CSP edged the Wildcats in Wayne 93-89 in overtime.
