Wayne Softball Outscores Monday Triangular Opponents 32-1, Coach Sweetland Becomes Nebraska’s All-Time Wins Leader

WEST POINT – Following a 2-1 weekend tournament result for the Wayne High softball team, the Blue Devils began a series of four games in two days Monday.

From Timmerman Softball Field in West Point, WHS visited the Cadets and also took on Schuyler.

In Wayne High’s 17-0 win over Schuyler, head coach Rob Sweetland became Nebraska’s all-time wins leader with 519 and then earned one more win after Wayne High defeated West Point-Beemer, 15-1. The Blue Devils improve to 12-2 overall as coach Sweetland is up to 520 career wins and counting.

During the win against Schuyler, Wayne High scored 11 runs in the opening inning before adding six more runs in the second to win 17-0. WHS used two homeruns of their nine hits in the victory.

Kendall Dorey recorded a single, homerun, five RBI and one run scored while Hope O’Reilly also went yard with two RBI and two runs scored for Wayne. Brooklyn Kruse singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored three times; Taytum Sweetland singled twice and scored; Virginia Kniesche singled and scored twice as Brianna Nissen singled, drove in two runs and scored. Kierah Haase scored twice and drove in a run while Delaney Kruse, Mikaela McManigal, Logan Miller, Nikki Fertig and Hailey Schroeder all scored. Kylen Robbins, Liberty Titiml and Caitlin Mostek accounted for a RBI.

Dorey picked up the complete game victory in three innings allowing no hits while striking out eight batters and walking one.

In the victory against West Point-Beemer, Wayne High outscored the Cadets 9-1 in the first before scoring six more runs in the second to win 15-1. WHS accounted for five extra base hits in the win.

O’Reilly came away with a pair of doubles, a single and four RBI while Dorey singled twice, doubled and also drove in four runs for Wayne. Brooklyn Kruse posted a homerun, two RBI and two runs scored; McManigal doubled and scored twice; Miller singled twice, drove in a run and scored as Schroeder singled and scored three times. Nissen, Kniesche and Haase both scored twice and Fertig crossed the plate once.

Dorey picked up the complete game win in three innings allowing an earned run off two hits while striking out five batters and walking two.
