Wayne Post 43 Seniors Drop Home Outing, Juniors Win 11th Straight

WAYNE – Following a weekend wood bat tournament, the Wayne Post 43 Junior and Senior American Legion baseball teams returned to busy week of league games.

From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, Post 43 opened Monday by entertaining Crofton.

The Wayne Seniors suffered a 9-6 loss falling to 3-6 on the season while the Post 43 Juniors picked up their 11th straight win of the season (11-0) winning 9-4 over Crofton.

During the Seniors game, Gavin Redden singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice while James Dorcey singled, drove in two runs and scored. Calvin Starzl singled twice, drove in a run and scored; Cooper Zara singled twice and drove in a run; Jacob Anderson and Toby Braun both singled and scored; Justin Sherman singled as Aiden Liston accounted for a RBI.

Dorcey (101 pitches) suffered the loss in five and two-thirds allowing eight runs (seven earned) off 11 hits while striking out eight batters and walking three. Justin Sherman (14) worked the final inning and a third allowing one run off three hits.

In the Juniors contest, Kaleb Moormeier singled three times, drove in a run and scored twice while Gavin Redden singled, drove in three runs and scored. Alex Rodriguez singled, drove in a run and scored twice; Wyatt Heikes and Ryan Karsky both singled and scored; Calvin Ankeny accounted for two RBI and a run scored as Aiden Liston scored.

Rodriguez (54 pitches) picked up the victory in three innings allowing two runs (one earned) off three hits while striking out two batters and walking one. Kaden Keller (73) worked three innings allowing two earned runs off five hits while striking out six batters and walking three.

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors and Seniors are right back in action hosting Pierce on Tuesday, June 14 (rescheduled game from June 6) and will also visit Columbus Lakeview on Wednesday, June 15. Junior games will start at 5:30 p.m. followed by Senior outings around 8 p.m.

Post 43 will close out the week on Friday, June 17 at West Point and the Wayne Seniors will participate in the Senior Pierce Tournament June 18 – 19.

The Wakefield Post 81 Juniors also hosted Hartington on Monday from Eaton Field. Wakefield picked up a 6-2 victory over Hartington and will next host Tekamah-Herman on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
