Wayne Post 43 Legion Teams Sweep Tekamah-Herman, Seniors Recognized

WAYNE – Following a pair of road outings earlier this week, the Wayne Post 43 Junior and Senior American Legion baseball teams took part in home competition.

From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, Post 43 welcomed in Tekamah-Herman. Friday evening.

During the Juniors game, Wayne led 2-1 after the first inning and scored a run in the third before tacking on three more in the fifth to win 6-1. Post 43 snapped a four-game losing streak to now sit 3-6 on the season.

James Dorcey doubled, drove in two runs and scored while Toby Braun singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice for Wayne. Jacob Anderson singled, Calvin Starzl scored twice; Wyatt Heikes scored and Max Miller accounted for a RBI.

Brooks Kneifl picked up the complete game win in six and two-thirds allowing one run off three hits while striking out 14 batters.

From the Seniors contest, Wayne won 3-1 improving to 9-0.

Gunnar Jorgensen paced Post 43 with a double and run scored while Jacob Kneifl and Blake Bartos both added a single and run scored. Tyrus Eischeid also singled.

Eischeid picked up the win in four and two-thirds allowing three hits while striking out two batters and walking four. Bartos worked two-thirds of an inning allowing one hit while striking out two batters and walking five. Korth earned the save in the final inning and two-thirds striking out three batters and walking two.

Seniors who were recognized included Blake Bartos, Trevor DeBoer, Tyrus Eischeid, Brock Hopkins, Gunnar Jorgensen, Josh Lutt and Hagan Miller.

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors will be off until Monday, July 13 during a make-up game along with the Seniors hosting Ponca at 5:30/8 p.m. The Wayne Post 43 Srs will host Lincoln Southwest on Sunday, July 12 at 1 p.m. during a nine inning contest from Hank Overin Field.
