Wayne Juniors Top Creighton Saturday, Earn #4 Seed In League Tournament

WAYNE – The Wayne Post 43 Junior American Legion baseball team played their second to last regular season game over the weekend.

From Hank Overin field in Wayne, Post 43 entertained Creighton in a non-league game.

Wayne started the game off with two runs before both teams scored a run in the second. Wayne then recorded six runs in the third and won 9-1. The Wayne Jrs are now 16-4 on the season entering the Ralph Bishop League Tournament and will close out their regular season hosting South Sioux City on Tuesday, July 9 at 7 p.m.

Max Miller posted a pair of singles and two RBI while Reid Korth singled twice for Wayne. Brock Hopkins singled and drove in two runs; Blake Bartos singled and drove in a run; Jacob Anderson singled as Gunnar Jorgensen and Toby Braun both accounted for a RBI.

Blake Bartos picked up the win in two innings allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out three batters and walking one. Reid Korth worked two and two-thirds allowing one hit while striking out six batters and walking one as Brock Hopkins recorded the final out in one pitch.

 

RBL Tourney play begins today and lasts through Sunday, July 7.

Monday Junior division games in Wayne will feature #8 Pierce (5-6) vs. #9 Wakefield (4-8) at 5:30 p.m. with the winner to face #1 Columbus Lakeview (10-0) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday followed by #4 Wayne (9-3) vs. #13 Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells (0-11) at 8 p.m. Other Junior division games will be played in Scribner Monday with #7 Tekamah-Herman (6-5) taking on #10 Battle Creek (2-9) at 5:30 p.m. with the winner to face #2 Pender (10-2) at 8 p.m. Wednesday and #5 Hooper-Scribner (8-4) vs. #12 Laurel (1-8) at 8 p.m. as #6 Arlington will host #11 Ponca  at 7 p.m. with the winner to face #2 West Point (9-2) Wednesday.

Senior Division games in Pierce start Tuesday with #6 Ponca (6-4) playing #11 Laurel (0-7) at 5:30 p.m. with the winner to face #3 Arlington (5-2) Friday followed by #7 Pierce (5-4) vs. #10 Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells (1-8) at 8 p.m. with the winner to face #2 Wakefield (7-2) Friday. #8 Tekamah-Herman (2-7) will host #9 Hooper-Scribner (2-7) at 7 p.m. Tuesday with the winner to face #1 Pender (9-1) Friday and #4 West Point (6-3) will face #5 Columbus Lakeview (5-3) Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Pender during their first-round game.
