Wayne American Legion Outscores Wakefield Teams 19-0 In 12 Innings

WAKEFIELD – The regular season came to a close for the Wayne Post 43 Juniors and Seniors as the Seniors prepare for an upcoming tournament.

From Eaton Field in Wakefield, Wayne visited Post 81 during the Tuesday night doubleheader. The Wayne Juniors got on a roll late to win 12-0 in five innings to end their season at 7-8 while Post 81 dropped their sixth straight falling to 4-7. In the Senior Legion contest, Wayne won 7-0 improving to 19-1 as Wakefield had their three-game winning streak snapped to now sit 5-7 on the season.

In the Juniors contest, Wayne scored two runs in the opening inning to lead 2-0. Following a scoreless second, Post 43 added five runs in the third, three in the fourth and two more in the fifth to win 12-0.

Jacob Anderson singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored while Toby Braun singled twice, drove in a run and scored for Wayne. Cooper Zara doubled, drove in a run and scored; James Dorcey singled twice and drove in a run; Calvin Starzl accounted for a RBI and run scored; Zach McManigal and Aiden Liston both scored twice; Max Miller scored twice and added a RBI as Justin Sherman and Brooks Kneifl each crossed the plate once.

Dorcey picked up the complete game, shutout, no-hit victory in five innings striking out six batters, walking three and hitting two.

Wakefield stranded all five of their base runners on the base paths.

Gabe Lamprecht suffered the loss in three innings allowing seven runs off three hits while striking out four batters, walking six and hitting two. Sam Nuno worked the final two innings allowing five runs off four hits while walking five batters.

During the Seniors game, Wayne got on the board with a two-run second before scoring another three runs in the fifth to lead 5-0. Post 43 then tallied two more runs in the top of the seventh to win 7-0.

Reid Korth singled and scored three times while Hagan Miller tripled, drove in a run and scored for Wayne. Gunnar Jorgensen doubled, drove in two runs and scored; Tyrus Eischeid doubled and drove in a run; Blake Bartos singled and scored as James Dorcey scored.

Trevor DeBoer picked up the win in two innings allowing two hits while striking out three batters. Josh Lutt worked an inning and two-thirds allowing two hits while striking out three batters and walking two. Reid Korth struck out five of eight batters faced in two and a third innings allowing one hit (two flyouts) as Miller pitched the final inning striking out one batter.

Blake Brown recorded two singles and a double to pace Post 81. Other singles came from Lukas Oswald and Joe Janssen.

TJ Salmon suffered the loss in six innings allowing five runs off four hits while striking out five batters, walking three and hitting two. Jesse Lundahl worked the final inning allowing two runs off one hit while walking one batter.

The Wayne Post 43 Seniors will next close out their season playing a minimum of three games in their division on Thursday and Friday, July 30 – 31 in the Bennington Tournament. If Wayne win’s their pool, they’ll also compete on Sunday, August 2.

Wakefield will next face Norfolk during one, nine-inning game on Wednesday before closing out their season hosting Ponca during a make-up doubleheader on Thursday.
