Trojan Volleyball Extends Winning Streak To Seven

WAKEFIELD – With a series of six matches being played over an eight-day period, the Wakefield Trojan volleyball team concluded their three straight triangular matches Tuesday night.

From Wakefield Community School, the Trojans welcomed in both Wausa and Hartington-Newcastle.

Wakefield swept Wausa (25-16, 25-20) and won in straight sets over Hartington-Newcastle (25-12, 25-19). The Trojans are now 13-7 and have won seven straight while going 15-1 in sets played since September 16.

The middle match favored Wausa in three sets over Hartington-Newcastle (25-20, 22-25, 25-17).

In the sweep against Wausa, Alex Arenas paced the team with five kills and two digs while Daveigh Munter-McAfee also recorded five kills. Aishah Valenzuela tallied a team-high eight digs followed by Katie Borg with five digs; Alice Brown finished with three kills; Destiny Helzer had two kills and two digs; Jordan Metzler posted nine set assists, two digs and two kills; Makenna Decker had one kill and a dig and Olivia Donner totaled three digs and six set assists.

Wakefield finished with eight service aces led by Katie Borg with three, Arenas and Brown both had two and Valenzuela added one ace.

 

From the victory over HNS, Arenas recorded a team-high six kills and six digs followed by Metzler with nine set assists, five kills and six digs. Munter-McAfee added four kills and two digs, Valenzuela finished with 18 digs; Borg had six digs; Decker had three kills while Brown, Helzer and Jamila Al-Khafaji all had one kill. Donner also had two set assists and one digs.

The Trojans posted five kills led by Metzler and Borg both with two as Valenzuela also had an ace.

The Wakefield volleyball team will next visit Crofton on Thursday, September 30.
