GACC Boys Golf Team Sends Two To State

WEST POINT – A pair of Guardian Angels Central Catholic boys golfers have punched their ticket to state.

From the Indian Trails Country Club in Beemer, GACC welcomed in 14 other teams during the D-2 District outing on Monday.

GACC just missed out on qualifying as a team by nine strokes.

Howells-Dodge was crowned D-2 District champion with a 366, followed by Stanton in runner-up with a 402 and Humphrey St. Francis the third state qualifying team with a 403.

GACC finished fourth with a 412, Elgin/Public Pope John was right behind in fifth with a 413, Pleasanton (sixth – 435), Burwell (seventh – 449), Shelby-Rising City (eighth – 465), Heartland Lutheran (ninth – 479), Central Valley (10th – 511), Fullerton (11th – 526) and High Plains Community (12th – 530) rounded out team scoring. Spalding Academy, Riverside and Omaha Brownell-Talbot didn’t record a team score.

The top three finishers were additional state qualifiers being District champion Dillon Critel of Burwell (78), Paiton Hoefer (EPPJ) with an 86 in second followed by Ryan Hrbek (GACC) in third also with an 86. Brady Lund of Howells-Dodge placed fourth also shooting an 86.

The fourth additional qualifier was Livia Hunke from GACC who shot a 90 to round out the top five. Jaden Kosch (Humphrey St. Francis), Austin Hegemann (Howells-Dodge) and Parker Krusemark (Stanton) all shot a 92 to finish 6 – 8 as Howells-Dodge teammates of Kellen Fiala and Cole Grovijohn both shot a 94 to close out the top 10.

The 2022 NSAA Boys State Golf Championships will be Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24 – 25. Class A will compete at the Norfolk Country Club; Class B at the Scotts Bluff Country Club in Scottsbluff; Class C at the Elks Country Club in Columbus and Class D at the Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte. Each of the two-day championship rounds will start at 9 a.m.
