Dirt Devil 10s, 18s Compete At Pender

PENDER – The oldest and one of the younger Dirt Devil summer softball teams were in action Thursday evening on the road.

The Devil 10s and 18s both visited Pender.

During the 18U games, the Dirt Devils split by winning game one, 4-3 but fell behind in the second game as Pender won 9-1. The Dirt Devil 18s are now 10-5 on the season.

In the first game, Pender led 1-0 after the first before the Dirt Devils took the lead with two runs in the top of the third. Pender knotted the game up with a run in the fourth before the Dirt Devils outscored Pender, 2-1 in the fifth to win 4-3.

RBI singles came from Mikaela McManigal, Taytum Sweetland, Rachel Hobbs and Hope O’Reilly. Aliah Schultz, Logan Miller and Kylen Robbins all singled and scored while Hailey Schroeder scored.

Hobbs (81 pitches) secured the complete game victory in five innings allowing three earned runs off eight hits while striking out eight batters and walking one.

From the second game, both teams scored a run in the first before Pender took control with a five-run second inning to lead 6-1. Pender added two more runs in the third and one in the fifth to win 9-1.

Hobbs singled and drove in a run while McManigal singled and scored. Logan Miller, Robbins and Sweetland all singled.

Erica Brown (52 pitches) suffered the loss in an inning and two-thirds allowing six runs (five earned) off six hits while walking four batters. Hobbs worked three and a third allowing three earned runs off five hits while striking out four batters and walking one.

During the 10s doubleheader, the Dirt Devils dropped a 12-0 opening game before both teams finished in a 10-10 tie Thursday evening. The Dirt Devil 10s are now 3-8-2 on the season.

From the first game, Pender scored five runs in the first inning before adding two runs in the second and five more runs in the third to shutout the Dirt Devil 10s.

No hits were recorded by the 10s as Lilly Redden, Hadley Dunklau and Kennedy Rubendall all drew walks.

Regan Heithold (76 pitches) suffered the loss in an inning and two-thirds allowing 11 runs (six earned) off two hits while striking out two batters and walking nine. Jessa McMenamin threw 10 pitches allowing one run and walked one batter.

In the night cap, the Dirt Devils took a 3-0 lead after the first inning before both teams scored five runs in the second. Pender then outscored the Dirt Devils, 5-2 in the third for a final of 10-10.

The Dirt Devil 10s lone hit came from Heithold who also drove in a run and scored. Elizabeth Hix accounted for two RBI and a run scored; Kamden Dobbins added a RBI and run scored; Reagan McManigal scored three times; McMenamin scored twice as single runs came from Lorelai Sorenson and Cece Judd.

Dobbins (78) threw two innings in the circle allowing 10 runs (eight earned) off three hits while striking out two batters and walking 10.

The Dirt Devil 10s will begin district tourney play on Friday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Bennington. The Dirt Devil 12s will next compete in district competition between Friday, June 11 – Sunday, June 13 in Blair. The Dirt Devil 14s will participate in district action Friday, June 11 – Sunday, June 13 in Scribner. The Dirt Devil 18s will be off until Tuesday, June 15 visiting Yankton (SD) at 6:30/8 p.m.
