Music, Art, Filmmaking, Crime Scene Investigation Camps Being Highlighted At WSC

WAYNE – A variety of summer camps will pertain to music, art, filmmaking and crime scene investigation at Wayne State College.

According to a release from WSC, registration is open for these camps for those wishing to reserve a spot. The college will also host a variety of sports camps, which are available at www.wscsportscamps.com.

The Wayne State College Summer Music Camp (https://www.wsc.edu/music-camp) is the perfect opportunity to explore musical interests in a fun and positive environment. Campers will get a variety of experiences while learning from professional musicians who are experts in their fields. In addition to taking unique music courses, the camp will include social activities.

Attendees will get to make friends with others who share a love for music with the option to live on campus during the camp.

The camp is open to students who have completed grades 5-12 and will last from July 18-21. The cost for resident campers is $300, which includes meals and housing. Commuting campers will pay $250, which includes meals but no housing.

Wayne State College Art Camps will also provide opportunities for students to experience art by working with WSC Art Education students to draw, paint, sculpt and more. Students aged 5 – 8 will meet from 10 a.m. to noon and students aged 9 – 12 will meet from 1 – 3 p.m. on the Wayne State College campus (Studio Arts 123-Drawing Studio).

Students may register for any of the four weeks as cost is $25 per student from June 6 – 10, June 20 – 24, July 11 – 15 and August 1 – 5 by visiting https://cac.cityofwayne.org.

The Filmmakers Workshop is a great opportunity to get firsthand experience in filmmaking. The camp provides an introduction in filmmaking led by WSC film professor, Dr. Michael White.

Designed for teens, campers will plan, shoot and edit their own short films.

All facets of production will be covered, including casting, set design, location, scouting, lighting, shooting and editing. Two opportunities are offered for the Hot Attic Film School this summer from June 13 – 17, between 8 a.m. to noon Monday – Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday at Wayne State College’s College Center, 1001 College Way, South Sioux City, NE 68776, and July 11 – 15 from 8 a.m. to noon Monday – Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday at the Wayne State College Humanities Building.

The Filmmakers Workshop is open to students in grades 7-12 as registration is $100 (includes t-shirt and flash drive).

Students will also explore the exciting career of crime scene investigation through hands-on activities in the College’s unique Criminal Justice Crime Scene Investigation Facility. The camp will be held on Wednesday, June 15.

Those who completed grades 6 – 8 are invited between 9 – 11:30 a.m. while high school students who completed grades 9 – 12 from 1 – 3:30 p.m. Cost is $50 which includes a t-shirt.
