Little Red Hen Theatre To Present Christmas Performances December 9 – 11

WAKEFIELD – An early December production of ‘A Little Red Hen Christmas’ in northeast Nebraska will feature a community celebration from an idea that was created a couple years ago.

‘Be A Part of Our World!’ season 2022 is coming to an end with another performance at the Little Red Hen Theatre located at 316 Main Street in Wakefield.

Adam Goos, Managing Director at the Little Red Hen Theatre said the group decided to put on a live production.

“So, it’s kind of like an old school variety TV show,” said Goos. “But it’s part Christmas concert, part short vignette scenes about Christmas. There’s wonderful carols, musical theatre scenes, scenes with Santa, scenes with Satna’s elves and just great must and also guest from the communities performing.”

‘A Little Red Hen Christmas’ will offer three productions on Friday and Saturday, December 9 – 10 at 7 p.m. along with a Sunday, December 11 performance at 2 p.m. Each show will last about 90 minutes including the intermission where home baked Christmas cookies and hot cider will be served.

Goos added the cast has been having fun putting together a variety of scenes as some of it is original content and others are reimagined.

“We have a scene with Mr. and Mrs. Claus getting ready for the big night out,” Goos added. “There’s a scene about Santa’s elves and then we’ve taken some traditional Christmas stories that we love as well.”

Songs and scenes will be highlighted from ‘The Grinch Who Stole Christmas’, ‘The Gift of The Magi’ along with featured performances by Tegan Nissen, the Siouxland Discovery Chorus and more.

This year’s cast is made up of 30 people.

“We also have the Salem Bell Choir is going to be performing from Salem Lutheran Church they’ll be doing a selection of songs,” Goos mentioned. “Tiffany and Noah Lamprecht will be doing a song as well as a group of kids from Covenant Church are performing as well doing a version of the ‘Hallelujah’, which will be quite wonderful.”

Goos also said,  as part of the show, they’ll be accepting donations for the Wakefield Food Pantry.

“They recently reached out to us because their shelves have been going bare the last few weeks,” said Goos. “So, we’re asking everybody who comes to the show, to also just bring some canned goods to put under our tree in the lobby or non-perishable items so that we can give that to our local food pantry.”
