Learn More About Recycling During The Friday, April 20 Chamber Coffee

WAYNE – As Earth Day approaches this weekend, join the Wayne Green Team as the group highlights some recent recycling stats while talking about upcoming events.

The Wayne Area Economic Development office will hold their weekly Chamber Coffee event on Friday, April 20 at 10 a.m. This week’s host is the Wayne Green Team and will be held at the Wayne Public Library located at 410 N Pearl St.

In 2009, the Wayne Green Team was created where a committee of citizens and city staff who were concerned about the environment, according to Sandy Brown who is the Chair of the Wayne Green Team.

“They did a pretty good job of that,” said Brown. “So, we just kind of continued and refined that mission. We really re-focused on increasing sustainable behavior and reducing waste.”

Two slogans for the Wayne Green Team include “Zero Waste” and “Recycle Right”.

Friday morning Chamber Coffee will be the second “Zero Waste” event that the Wayne Green Team has hosted. They chose the Wayne Public Library to showcase their drop-off bins for inkjet cartridges, eye glasses and more.

One of the several organizations who assist in recycling is the local boy scout troop in Wayne being very successful picking up cans and paper.

“Last year they were able to send 14 scouts to summer camp which is a great benefit for them,” Brown added. “Just from their efforts in recycling aluminum cans and that’s five more from previous years.”

Wayne Green Team meetings are held on the second Monday of every month and have been rotating between the library at 7 p.m. or Tacos & More at Noon.

Make sure to bring your own mug for the coffee that is provided Friday morning as there will also be muffins without the paper wrappings around them.
