WAYNE – Ponca State Park wants to celebrate the holiday season with its guests. ‘Christmas in the Woods’ will allow visitors to experience various winter activities, like the ‘Christmas Tree Hunt.’

The ‘Christmas Tree Hunt’ involves searching for the 16 decorated trees around the park. There is a tree with just one red bow on it. The park encourages patrons to add their own bird-friendly decorations to this tree.

Ponca State Park organized a ‘Holiday Coloring Contest.’ The topic is “My Favorite Ponca Winter Memory.” This is to be done on an 8.5 by 11” sheet of paper. Enter artwork by dropping it in the mailbox at the Resource and Education Center or by emailing to ngpc.ponca@nebraska.gov. Full name, age, address, and phone number should be included. Prizes will be awarded through the mail and winners will be posted on Ponca State Park’s Facebook page.

The Old Oak Trail and Tristate Overlook Trail will be decorated for the holidays. Keep an eye out for sasquatch and gnomes on the trails.

The ‘Christmas in the Woods’ events take place all December long.

Through March 19, the last day of winter, the ‘Annual Snow Creation Building Contest’ is taking place. Create a snow masterpiece by the mini lodges or Resource and Education Center. Then, send a photo of the creation to lynn.mellick@nebraska.gov. There will be an award for first, second, and third place.
