Businesses, Residents Of Wayne Invited To Get In The Holiday Mood

WAYNE – As Thursday, November 19 has passed, there was a different feel to the evening with no Christmas on Main/Parade of Lights this year. But officials at the Wayne Area Economic Development office want to remind community members there is still plenty going on.

Due to the current Directed Health Measures, the annual Christmas on Main/Parade of Lights event was called off.

From a window decorating contest for businesses to a residential lighting contest, Thursday kicked off the Holiday Stamp Card promotion for 2020, according to Abby Schademann, Marketing, Events and Tourism Coordinator at WAED.

“That is where you’re able to your Christmas shopping at different places that are on that list in town to shop local,” said Schademann. “For every $5, $10 or $20 you spend you’ll get your card stamped.”

Once $100 is reached on each card, it’ll be put in the tumbler to be drawn for $700 worth chamber bucks in December.

Besides November 27 (Black Friday) and November 28 (Shop Small Saturday), double punches are also available every Wednesday and Saturday as drawings for three names will take place each week on Friday, December 4 and Friday, December 11 for $50 with a final drawing for two $200 winners on Friday, December 18.

Schademann added there is plenty of time to shop local.

“December 17 or if you’re very proactive, the morning of December 18 when we host Chamber Coffee at State Nebraska Bank & Trust at 10 a.m.,” Schademann added. “You still have a chance prior to us drawing to throw your cards into the tumbler.”

All businesses are invited to participate in the Third annual Holiday Window Decorating Contest by decorating their store windows. There is no cost for this event and WAED is flexible for businesses to get signed up prior to judging. This year’s theme is “Sights and Sounds of Christmas”.

The Business Window Decorating Contest will be judged on Wednesday, November 25 as advertising packages are being donated by KTCH/KCTY and the Wayne Herald/Morning Shopper.

Window signs will be provided by WAED for participating locations.

WAED is also planning a residential lighting contest in the month of December. Businesses who would like to donate items for the people’s choice prize basket should contact the WAED office.

“So, that will be open to anybody in the Wayne community that has a Wayne mailing address,” Schademann mentioned. “You can sign up for that until December 18.”
