HOLT COUNTY – Authorities are warning the public about a sophisticated telephone scam in Holt County.
The Holt County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a scam Tuesday involving a person falsely posing as a Sergeant with the Sheriff’s Office.
The scammer claimed the citizen had missed a court date and jury duty in Holt County and wanted the victim to get a prepaid card and read the number off the back.
The scammer used a spoof program to appear as the Holt County Sheriff’s Office phone number.
Sheriff Ben Matchett is reminding the public that any law enforcement agency will never call requesting credit card information.
