Plainview man sentenced to probation for State Patrol assault case

PIERCE – A Plainview man is getting minimal jail time after authorities say he threatened a State Patrol trooper with a machete.

53-year old Billy Ray Hoscheit was sentenced to 24 months of probation and 90 days in jail in Pierce County District Court on Thursday. Judge James Kube suspended 72 days of Hoscheit’s jail term provided he lives up to the terms of his probation.

Hoscheit was arrested last December outside of his Plainview home. The State Patrol says a trooper was at the home to interview a woman about a prior car accident when he was confronted by Hoscheit.

The Patrol says Hoscheit brandished a machete at the trooper and punched him in the face.

A jury found him guilty of felony assault back in October.
