Wildcats A Shot Back From Fourth, Kurmel Top Player After Day One Of NSIC Championships

SMITHVILLE, MO – Over the course of three days, the Wayne State College women’s golf team will compete in the NSIC Golf Championships.

From Paradise Pointe in Smithville, Missouri, day one action began on Friday as teams battled through the rainy conditions.

Wayne State College shot a 331 to sit fifth out of the 12 NSIC teams. WSC was just one shot back from Concordia-St. Paul with a 330 in fourth.

Abbey Kurmel is leading the way for WSC with an eight-over par 80 to sit tied for 16th.

Other opening round scores were posted by Jazmine Taylor (T-23rd – 82), Erica Lee (25th – 83), Saffire Sayre (T-33rd – 86) and Abby Brodersen (T-36th – 87).

Augustana was currently in the lead after day one of the NSIC women’s golf championships following a 300. Minnesota State-Mankato was sitting second with a 305 while Winona State was in third with a 308.

Lauren Tims of Augustana fired a one-under par 71 to lead the 60 golfers followed closely by Carly Moon from Winona State at even par 72.

Day two of the 54-hole NSIC women’s golf championships will continue on Saturday with a 9 a.m. tee time.
