Wayne State Softball Falls Behind Early In Home Doubleheader Defeat

WAYNE – With two doubleheaders set to be played over a three-day period, the Wayne State College softball team opened the weekend on their home diamond.

From the Pete Chapman Softball Complex, WSC welcomed Sioux Falls on Friday.

The visiting Cougars picked up wins of 8-3 and 5-0 over the Wildcats. Wayne State College has now dropped four straight falling to 7-37 (3-17 NSIC) while Sioux Falls is now 19-26 (10-14 NSIC).

In the opening game, Sioux Falls got on the board early and often with a three-run second, one run in the third and three more runs in the fourth to lead 7-0. WSC outscored USF, 2-1 in the sixth and Wayne State College tacked on one more run in the seventh. Final favored Sioux Falls winning 8-3 and outhitting the Wildcats, 12-6.

Jordyn Klein singled, doubled and scored; Lillie Timm singled and doubled while Hayley Murphy doubled and drove in a run for WSC.

Morgan Beaty singled, Dylan Sweeney and Louisa Stowman each accounted for a RBI as Abby Husing and Payton Kincaid both scored.

Samantha Felt (2-15) suffered the loss in three innings allowing four runs (three earned) off six hits while striking out and walking two batters each. Callie Carraher worked four innings allowing four earned runs off six hits while hitting one batter.

 

During the second outing, Sioux Falls posted a four-run fourth inning and added one more run in the fifth. Final favored favored USF winning 5-0 while it was the Wildcats winning the hit department, 7-5.

Jordyn Klein and Dylan Sweeney both singled twice, Mary Krystofiak singled and doubled as Jordyn Rochholz doubled.

Grace Lucka (5-9) suffered the loss in four innings allowing four earned runs off four hits while striking out two batters and walking four. Felt worked three innings allowing an earned run off one hit.

The Wayne State College softball team will be off until Sunday, April 21 visiting Minnesota State-Mankato at noon/2 p.m.
