YUTAN – Following a Friday cancelation to their final home game, the Wayne High baseball team took to the road to battle a Class B opponent.

From Yutan, Wayne High visited Platte Valley on Saturday.

The host Patriots scored late to win 4-2. Platte Valley is now 11-11 while Class C Wayne fell to 12-6. WHS previously won four of their last five games.

Platte Valley led 1-0 after the first inning while both teams scored single runs in the third and fifth innings. Platte Valley scored once more in the sixth to hold onto the 4-2 victory. The Patriots also outhit WHS, 7-4.

Drew Reinhardt singled twice and scored while Ryan Karsky and Jaxson Kneifl both singled for Wayne.

Parker Patefield accounted for a RBI as Kaleb Moormeher scored.

Gavin Redden (65 pitches) suffered the loss in five innings allowing three earned runs off seven hits while striking out three batters and hitting one. Gavin Anderson (21) worked the final inning allowing one run while striking out one batter.

Wayne High will close out their regular season with the overall #1 seed in the Class C District Tournament by visiting Malcolm on Monday, April 29 at 4 or 4:30 p.m. (both times are listed on Mid State page for Wayne).

The Blue Devils have earned the #2 seed in the C-5 District to be hosted by Adams Central in Hastings on Thursday and Friday, May 2 – 3. WHS will open against #3 Louisville at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
