DES MOINES, IA – Over a period of two days, the Wayne State College women’s and men’s outdoor track and field program took part in weekend competition.

From the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, the Wildcats capped off a busy week where they also sent student-athletes to Madison and Yankton, South Dakota.

The Wayne State College women’s distance relay team set a new school record Saturday morning. The quartet of Kylie Pachta, Sarah Cotton, Alison Stineman and Callie Kirchner placed seventh overall in a time of 12:27.34, bettering the previous school mark of 12:31.80 set in 2010 by Paige Pollard, Christina King, Megan Zavorka and Sarah Thomsen.

Reilly Young made the finals in the women’s discus Friday afternoon at the Drake Relays and placed eighth out of 23 competitors in a highly competitive, mostly Division I field. Young’s top mark in prelims was 150′ 7″ that advanced her to the finals where she came up with a top throw of 151′ 11″ on the second attempt in finals to take eighth place.

In the men’s division, Dylan Kneifl tied his school record clearing 7 1/4″ Friday afternoon to finish second in the high jump.  An NCAA provisional qualifying mark, Kneifl’s top mark of 7 1/4″ now leads the NSIC and is tied for sixth in NCAA Division II.  He also cleared 7 1/4″ last year on May 5th at the South Dakota Tune-Up Meet in Vermillion.

Following his weekend performance, Kneifl was named NSIC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. On Monday, the mark of 7’ ¼” is now tied for 10th in DII.

Daylin Mallory competed Friday in two events at the Drake Relays.  He posted a top mark of 49′ 5 3/4″ to finish 22nd in the shot put and fouled on all three attempts in the discus.

Wayne State’s distance medley relay quartet of Gabe Peitz, Austin Madsen, Andrew Wyllie and Quentin Dreyer ran Saturday morning and finished 13th place with a time of 10:21.40.

The Wayne State College women’s and men’s outdoor track and field team will next compete on Friday, May 3 when the Wildcats travel to the South Dakota Tune-Up Meet at Vermillion, South Dakota.
