Blues Devils Use Top Defensive Gems To Secure District Tournament Semi-Final Victory 

HASTINGS – For the third time in the past four seasons, the Wayne High baseball team has made the three-plus hour trek to Hastings for district competition.

From Duncan Field, #2 Wayne began the C-5 District Tournament against a school in their second-year competing in high school baseball being #3 Louisville (Weeping Water).

Wayne High scored two of their three runs off defensive errors from the Lions to win 3-1. WHS snapped a two-game losing streak to now sit 13-7 while Louisville ended their season at 4-13.

The Blue Devils opened scoring with a run in the home half of the second inning. Both teams then scored a run in the third with Wayne leading 2-1. WHS scored once more in the bottom of the fifth to win 3-1 despite being outhit, 9-2.

Jase Dean and Jaxson Kneifl both singled and scored for Wayne. Adrian Contreras also scored and threw out the potential game-tying run at the plate in the top of the sixth inning from left field. Devin Anderson added a RBI.

Gavin Anderson (75 pitches) picked up the win in three and two-thirds allowing an earned run off five hits while striking out five batters and walking four. Alex Rodriguez (36) worked the final three and a third innings allowing four hits while hitting one batter.

Later in the afternoon, #4 Thurston-Cuming County (Pender/Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur) (5-12) will be in action against #1 Adams Central (13-5). The game will be carried on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9, waynedailynews.com and the Wayne Radio app with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.

The C-5 District Final is set for Friday, May 2 at TBD. (this depends on which teams are in the final).
