WAYNE – A public invite has been issued for those to celebrate the retirement of Julie Rother, BSN, RN, CPH who has served as NNPHD Health Director since October 2016.

According to a release from the Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department, the Open House will be held at Elkhorn Valley Bank and Trust (411 East 7th Street) in Wayne from 3 – 5 p.m. on Friday, February 9.

NNPHD serves Cedar, Dixon, Thurston and Wayne Counties and has been open and available to the community since 2002.

Director Rother came to NNPHD in 2006 with one of her first projects being the area professional organizations and communities to develop plans for how to respond to a biological disaster. The health department eventually added other programs and services to prevent disease and injury, promote optimal wellness and protect the health of the public.

In the 20+ years of growth, NNPHD has continued to look for and respond to the health needs of the community.

Rother has been a dedicated advocate for public health and individual well-being and a driving force for impactful change through her leadership at NNPHD.  Her commitment to fostering healthier communities has resulted in the successful development and expansion of several public health programs and initiatives in northeast Nebraska.

Some of the initiatives and programs include the Northeast Nebraska Rural Health Network, Behavioral Health, Health Promotion and Diabetes on Track Coalitions, Community Response, Oral Health, Weight Management, Health Equity and Minority Health.

Danielle Gearhart, Chief Executive Officer of Providence Medical Center and NNPHD Board of Health Member said, “Julie Rother has been an outstanding public servant in our region, leading with professionalism and compassion even during the most challenging times. She has demonstrated a strong commitment to the health and well-being of our communities. Her retirement is well-deserved.”

Julie readily added, “over the years, the health department has led many initiatives in which numerous people and organizations have worked together to improve health conditions for people of the area.  There is an obvious commitment to health in Northeast Nebraska; being part of that passion for improving health for all people has been very fulfilling.”
