PONCA – A pair of introductory courses will be highlighted this weekend at Ponca State Park.

According to a release, join a park naturalist on Saturday, April 20 first for an introduction to the wild turkey at 9:30 a.m.

Ponca State Park officials will highlight the wild turkeys in and around the area. Attendees will hear more about their history, habitats, vocalizations and daily requirements. You will also be able to examine and try out several different types of turkey calls while possibly observing some of these turkeys as they go about their daily activities.

Meet in the back of the museum at the Resource and Education Center for this free event.

Later in the afternoon from 1 – 3 p.m. on Saturday, an introductory course on the slingshot will be showcased. All equipment is provided and youth must be five years of age or older with adult supervision. Meet and pay at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex as cost is $1 for 30 rocks.

Also, save the date of Saturday and Sunday, April 27 – 28 for a fly tying workshop, youth fishing instructor course and first responders community fishing day. This fun weekend will be offered by Ponca State Park, the Cornhusker Fly Fishers and your local first responders.

Other events for those who visit Ponca State Park include bingos/scavenger hunts/passports; search for Sasquatch, Old Oak Trail self-guided hike; fishing tackle loaner program and beginner Mountain bike trail behind campsite G8.
