Wayne Broncos Post Identical Scores, Scheduled To Play Each Other Thursday

WAYNE – Both the Wayne white and blue broncos took part in their first action of the 2019 Tri-County League youth baseball tournament Tuesday.

From the Summer Sports Complex, the Wayne teams had first round byes from Sunday.

#3 Wayne blue took on #14 West Point Patriots while #6 Wayne white battled #11 Arlington maroon.

From the blues game, Wayne brought in a pair of runs during the first inning. The Wayne blues then posted a six-run third inning before outscoring the Patriots 2-1 in the fourth. West Point did add another run in the fifth but it was Wayne improving to 10-2 on the season with the 10-2 victory.

Alex Frank singled, recorded a solo homerun and scored a team-high three runs while Gavin Redden tripled and drove in a run for Wayne. Jase Dean singled and drove in a run; Kaden Keller singled as Keegan Rubendall and Carter Wiese both accounted for two RBI and another RBI from Mason Karsky.

Keller picked up the win in four innings allowing an earned run while striking out 10 batters and walking two. Jace Jorgensen worked an inning allowing one run as Gavin Redden pitched the final inning striking out three batters and walking one.


During the whites contest, Wayne struck early with a run in the first and six more in the second. The Wayne whites then scored twice in the fourth, both teams scored a run in the fifth and Arlington ended with a run in the sixth. Final saw Wayne win 10-2 to improve to 9-3 on the season.

Devin Anderson singled, doubled, tripled, drove in two runs and scored a team-high three runs while Kaleb Moormeier singled, tripled, drove in two runs and scored twice for Wayne. Calvin Ankeny doubled and drove in two runs; Drew Reinhardt singled and drove in a run as Jamison Meyer singled.

Alex Rodriguez picked up the win in four innings allowing one hit while striking out five batters and walking two. Ankeny worked the final two innings allowing two earned runs off four hits while striking out two batters and walking one.


With both Wayne bronco teams winning, they’ll match up against each other on Thursday, July 11 at 6:30 from the Summer Sports Complex. One team will be eliminated.


#15 Wakefield saw their season come to an end following a 4-3 loss to #2 Pender Red.


Wednesday quarter-final didget games: #1 Wayne white vs. #9 Tekamah-Herman purple; #5 Wayne blue at #4 West Point Patriots; #3 Schuyler Green vs. #6 Pierce and #7 Howells/Dodge vs. #18 Pender white.

Wednesday semi-final pony games in Pender: #1 Pierce blue vs. #4 Oakland/Craig at 5:30 p.m. followed by #2 West Point Patriots vs. #3 Wayne at 7:45 p.m.
