Two men rescued off ice in Harlan County Lake Saturday

REPUBLICAN CITY, NE – (The Kearney Hub) – Two men were rescued from a floating ice shelf at Harlan County Reservoir near Republican City.

The Republican City Volunteer Fire and Rescue were called around noon Saturday to assist two fishermen who had become stranded after the ice began to melt.

Oxford Volunteer Fire and Rescue was called for assistance to the rescue, which was the first performed by the crew.

The rescue team used rope to reach the men and both were safely retrieved from the ice without any injury.

Alma Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Nebraska Game and Parks and the U-S Army Corps of Engineers also assisted with the rescue.
