Seward flooding continues

SEWARD, NE (Brandon Aksamit/ News Channel Nebraska) – The town of Seward is continuing to see major flooding this morning.

Hwy 34 is closed where water is coming up into the highway.

In addition, the city of Seward has imposed a water restriction, asking residents to avoid using dishwashers, washing machines, toilets, and to avoid showering if at all possible in an effort to keep additional water out of the sewer systems.

The Seward city administrator did say there is no risk of drinking water contamination at this time.

This morning the Lincoln Creek reached a level of 19.47 feet and is expected to reach at least 19.5 feet later in the day, one foot below its record level 20.5 feet.

The Big Blue River is also flooding, and site at 20.62 feet and is still expected to rise further.
