Post 43 Legion Baseball Produces 13 Runs Off 13 Hits

WAYNE – After suffering a road loss a few days ago, the Wayne Post 43 Junior American Legion baseball team began their home schedule entering the weekend.

From Hank Overin Field Friday, Wayne entertained Ponca Post 117.

After giving up three runs in the opening inning, Wayne Post 43 tallied a run in the second and then seven more in the third to lead 8-3. Wayne also scored two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to run rule Ponca, 13-3. Wayne is now 2-1 while Ponca falls to 0-2.

Reid Korth recorded two singles, a triple and drove in a run while Brooks Kneifl added a single, double and three RBI for Wayne. Jacob Anderson tacked on a single, double and two RBI; Brock Hopkins singled and doubled; Blake Bartos singled twice; Tyrus Eischeid singled and drove in two runs as Gunnar Jorgensen singled.

Eischeid picked up the win in three innings allowing three runs off two hits while striking out four batters and walking four. Brooks Kneifl worked the final two innings scoreless striking out three batters and walking one.

For Ponca, Caydon Phillips doubled and scored as Bryar Bennett added a single and run scored. Matt Logue also crossed the plate.

Phillips suffered the loss in four innings allowing 10 runs (four earned) off 10 hits while striking out four batters and walking three as Bennett worked a third of an inning allowing three runs (one earned) off three hits.

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors will next host Pender on Wednesday, May 29 at 7 p.m. from Hank Overin Field.
