Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Outscores Wayne Girls By Four In Second Half, Advances To White Division Championship Game

WAYNE – After two days of delays in first round action of the 2018 Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout, high school basketball teams began play Saturday afternoon.

Opening day scores from Rice Auditorium:

Girls blue division: #1 West Point-Beemer defeated #4 Arlington, 42-23. The Cadets will next face the winner of either #2 HCC or #3 Pender at 4 p.m. Monday while Arlington will face the loser at 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Boys white division: #6 Norfolk Catholic defeated #7 Arlington, 55-39. The Knights will next play #5 West Point-Beemer at 2 p.m. Monday while Arlington was eliminated.

Fast-forwarding to the 4 p.m. girls white division game, #6 Wayne took on #7 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.

With a shot made at the buzzer, both WHS and LCC were tied 13-13 after a quarter of play. Wayne High added another 13 points in the second to lead 26-25 at the break. The Bears were able to tie the game up at 37 all entering the fourth where LCC held off Wayne for a 55-52 win.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge improves to 5-4 as the Blue Devils are now 3-6.

LCC was led by the 12 points from Kinsey Hall as Makayla Forsberg and Delaney Ehlers both added 11 points. Lorna Maxon tallied nine points.

Frankie Klausen and Ashton Boyer both poured in 13 points for Wayne High. Tori Kniesche tacked on 11 points as Gabi Meyer recorded 10 points.

LCC will next face #5 Norfolk Catholic at 12:30 p.m. on Monday as Wayne High is off until Friday, January 4 hosting Pierce.
