Blue Devil Spring Sports Update

SOUTH SIOUX CITY/WAYNE – With overnight snow and wet field conditions yet another baseball game has been postponed for Wayne High while the Blue Devil track and field team will have their home meet go on.

Wayne High recently defeated GACC/West Point-Beemer/Scribner-Snyder from Eaton Field in Wakefield Monday.

The Blue Devils are 2-1 and were scheduled to visit South Sioux City (0-2) today but the game has been postponed. The Cardinals have losses to Mount Michael Benedictine (19-4) on March 26 and Omaha Northwest (9-6) on March 27.

The next scheduled game for Wayne High is now Friday, April 5 hosting Norfolk High at Hank Overin Field with varsity first pitch at 4:30 p.m. and JV to follow around 6:30 p.m. This game was originally set for Saturday, March 30 but postponed due to field conditions and cold temperatures.

For the Wayne High Track Invite, the meet is still on as of this afternoon.

Field events will begin just after 1 p.m. with running events to follow around 3:45 p.m. on Kern Track. Teams joining Wayne High will now be Boone Central/Newman Grove, Boys Town, Columbus Lakeview, Columbus Scotus, Pierce and Wakefield.

Head track & field coach Dale Hochstein mentioned the track was clear this morning, the jump runways looked good and the south pits are ready. One of the concerns was snow melting enough for discus. Temperatures should reach upper 40’s by 1 p.m. with sunshine still in the forecast as school officials are planning to go with the meet.

Wayne High is also scheduled to host another invite next Tuesday, April 9 while also competing in the Wisner-Pilger Invite in-between on Saturday, April 6.

The Wayne High boys golf triangular scheduled for today with Oakland-Craig and Wisner-Pilger was postponed but is now back on from the Wayne Country Club. Tee time is set for 4 p.m.
