Week-Day Ponca State Parks Events Scheduled

PONCA – Join Ponca State Park this week for more great activities for the entire family.

Following a bass fishing session Monday late afternoon at 3 p.m., Tuesday activities will start with an introductory course for pellet rifles from 9 – 11 a.m. All equipment is provided as participants must be eight years old or older and cost is $1 per four clips.

A ‘Walking Sticks’ session will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday for up to 15 people. Meet at the Resource and Education Center as cost is $3 to carve and/or decorate your very own walking stick. Walking sticks are a useful tool for any hiker looking to go on a hiking adventure.

Closing out the day will be tales about snails along with a short hike to look for one of the slowest creatures in the park. This is a free event.

Other weekday introductory courses include archery and muzzleloading Wednesday as well as pellet rifles & .22 rifles Thursday both from 9 – 11 a.m. Cost is $1 per six arrows for archery; $1 per two shots for muzzleloading and $3 for 10 rounds in .22 rifles.

Learn how to care for Dutch Ovens and cook a delicious Triple Chocolate Delight Cake also Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $3 per person. Close out Wednesday by creating your own piece of art using a very special sequence during a free event at 3 p.m.

Thursday afternoon events include finding out more about Lewis and Clark at 1 p.m. and learning how to measure trees and figure out some cool things about your new adventure in the backyard at 3 p.m. Both events are free and participants can meet in the Resource and Education Center.

Ponca State Park also announced Monday that, with the residing of the Missouri River, campsites on the riverfront have reopened. But due to debris coming down the river the docks will remain pulled.
