LINCOLN — First lady Susanne Shore says that she hasn’t picked out a dress yet for the inaugural ball but that she is moving ahead with plans for a celebration of her husband’s re-election and the state in general.

“A Celebration” has been picked as the theme for the governor’s inaugural ball, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Lincoln’s Pinnacle Bank Arena.

But, Shore said at a press conference Tuesday, there are still many details to be worked out.

Like the food. Beef, Nebraska’s claim to culinary fame, will be on the menu, but the governor’s favorite dessert, chocolate chip cookies, will not.

Shore, who is heading up planning for the inaugural, said that negotiations are underway with a “very fun … party band” to provide dance music. And, she added, several live performances will focus on what makes Nebraska “such an amazing state.”

The goal is not just to celebrate her husband’s re-election, she said, but also to continue the celebration of the state that began during last year’s sesquicentennial events.

“(We want to show) that we live in a very fun and positive place,” said Shore, who also headed up the 150th anniversary of Nebraska’s statehood.

All Nebraskans are invited to the black-tie optional dinner and dance. Cost of the dinner and dance is $75, while it costs $25 to attend the Grand March and dance, and get dessert. The last inaugural, in 2015, sold out, so the first family urged people to obtain their tickets early.
