Nebraska State Patrol troopers have seized 182 pounds of marijuana following a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Seward County.

About 1:50 p.m. Thursday, a trooper spotted an eastbound 2017 Dodge Caravan speeding near Beaver Crossing, the patrol said Friday. As he approached the minivan, the trooper smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside.

A search of the vehicle uncovered several marijuana-filled duffel bags hidden under a blanket in the rear of the van. The bags contained 182 pounds of marijuana, carrying an estimated street value of $546,000, the patrol said.

So far this year, the patrol has confiscated more than 4,000 lbs. of marijuana, patrol spokesman Cody Thomas said. Last year, the total was just over 2,600 lbs. In 2016, Thomas said, the total was around 2,200 lbs.

The minivan driver, a 54-year-old woman from Lebec, California, and her passenger, a 22-year-old resident of Edmonds, Washington, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to deliver and no drug tax stamp. Both were taken to the Seward County Jail.
