State Patrol warns of scam using their phone number

OMAHA – The Nebraska State Patrol is warning Nebraskans of a phone scam that makes people think they are getting calls from the State Patrol.

The scam was reported to the State Patrol Thursday and victims say the call appears to come from the NSP Troop A Office number . The scammer then asks about student loans and threatens the involvement of the IRS.

Captain Brenda Konfrst, Troop A Commander, says the NSP would not contact anyone about student loans or IRS activity. The Patrol says they usually only contact a citizen if they reach out to the NSP, or as a follow-up on recent interaction they’ve had.

If you experience this, or any other spoofing scam, the NSP asks that you please report it to the Consumer Protection Division of the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office at https://protectthegoodlife.nebraska.gov/ or call toll free at (800) 727-6432.
