One police officer shot, another stabbed during early morning disturbance in Lincoln

One officer was shot and another stabbed during an officer-involved shooting in Lincoln just before 3 a.m. Saturday morning.

Lincoln police responded to a report of a man wielding a knife south of Van Dorn and South 48th Streets at 2:25 a.m. According to police, one officer was stabbed in the upper right chest beyond the coverage of their ballistic vest, then another officer was shot in the leg about 20 minutes after arrival.

According to police, officers then opened fire on the suspect, a 43-year-old male. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the shoulder and remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Neither officer suffered life-threatening injuries.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. Lincoln Police will provide an update on Monday.
