LINCOLN – Independence Day weekend saw 16 impaired drivers get arrested by Nebraska State Patrol (NSP).
The NSP organized a greater enforcement effort for Friday, July 3, through Sunday, July 5. This effort was in cooperation with multiple local law enforcement agencies across Nebraska.
State Troopers issue many other types of citations over the holiday weekend. There were 16 citations for driving under suspension, two for minor in possession, nine for open alcoholic containers, six for no proof of insurance, five for not wearing a seat belt, two for improper child restraint, and 292 citations for speeding. Of those 292 speeding violations, 17 were driving at 100 miles per hour or more. Troopers performed 137 motorist assists during this time period.
The three-day effort was made possible by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation and Highway Safety Office. The grant totaled $17,700.
