Nebraska Department of Transportation seeks witty and creative safety messages

The Nebraska Department of Transportation is seeking the public’s ideas for amusing safe driving advice for its “Friday Safety Messages.”

The messages will be posted on electronic message boards along Nebraska’s Interstates and major highways, according to a press release. They will be, as the name implies, posted on Fridays.

Many tie into holidays or special events.

Messages in the past few years have included March’s “SAVE THE MADNESS FOR THE COURT, DRIVE SAFE,” or the St. Patrick’s Day reminder, “HOLD ON TO YOUR POT O’ GOLD, DRIVE SOBER.”

Submissions are being accepted through May 31. Submissions must be three lines of text, 18 characters per line maximum, including spaces. Send them to the department’s website: http://dot.nebraska.gov/news-media/friday-safety-message-idea-submission
