An Omaha man charged with attempted murder was angry with a woman who wanted to end their relationship, an assistant prosecutor in the Douglas County Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.
Jarel Wilkins, 26, was ordered held on $750,000 bail in connection with an attack on Trellnequa George, 24, of Omaha. The prosecutor said Wilkins stabbed George “multiple times in the face and head” about 8:15 p.m. Friday at 10025 Crown Point Plaza “because she wanted to break up with him.”
George was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center in critical condition. A hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday that no information about her condition is being released.
Wilkins was arrested Sunday near 18th and Spencer Streets, where he entered a house and held a woman against her will, the prosecutor said. He also started a fire with the aid of a stove in an attempt to avoid arrest, the prosecutor said. Wilkins was charged with assault, false imprisonment and arson in connection with that incident.
He was also ordered held on $15,000 bail in connection with a shoplifting charge from a separate incident, the prosecutor said. Wilkins must pay 10 percent of the total bail amount, $765,000, to be released from jail.
