Lincoln man killed, four injured in two-vehicle crash

A man died and his wife was critically injured Monday in a two-vehicle collision at U.S. Highway 77 and Interstate 80 north of Lincoln.

Dennis Plautz, 74, and Patricia Plautz, 65, both of Lincoln, were critically injured and taken to Bryan Medical Center about 3:30 p.m. Dennis Plautz later died, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators determined that Patricia Plautz was driving a 2013 Honda CR-V with her husband as a front-seat passenger when the CR-V collided with a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country driven by Lois Vachal. The Honda was turning left from the eastbound I-80 ramp onto northbound Highway 77 with a green light.

The Chrysler was southbound on Highway 77 when it went through a red light and struck the Honda, officials said. The Honda rolled over before stopping.

Lois Vachal and her passengers, Stan Vachal and Addison Ellinghausen-Andersen, were taken to Bryan with minor injuries.

The collision remains under investigation.
