Ice cold, Dr Pepper.

Dr Pepper appears to be discontinuing the popular Larry Culpepper “Ice cold Dr Pepper here!” ads after a half-decade campaign tied to college football. The character, a pop salesman, was played by Omaha native and Creighton Prep graduate James M. Connor.

Connor was set to appear Monday on former Husker Adam Carriker’s “Carriker Chronicles,” a World-Herald podcast. But Connor canceled at the last second when he learned he was out of a job.

Monday afternoon, Carriker tweeted “(Connor) told me that the company will not feature Culpepper in commercials going forward. Connor says the decision ‘Rocked my world’ and (the job) was ‘An incredible gig.’”

Dr Pepper spokespeople have not yet responded to a request for comment.

Connor, 57, has appeared in films including “About Schmidt,” “Blades of Glory,” and “Watchmen,” as well as TV shows including “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “The King of Queens,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Parks and Recreation.”
