GOTHENBURG, Neb. — A Gothenburg High School student was cited for making terroristic threats after he allegedly threatened students and teachers at the school.
The Gothenburg Public Schools administration received a report Friday of possible threats made by a male student to teachers and staff members, according to a Tuesday press release from the Gothenburg Police Department.
Police investigated the threats through Sunday evening.
“At this time, no direct or credible threats had been discovered, as most of the information was false, embellished, passed on by rumors and was old information, which could not be corroborated,” the press release said.
However, additional information led to another student being cited for alleged terroristic threats. The 17-year-old student was suspended and removed from the school property Monday with his parents’ assistance, according to a statement by Gothenburg school and police officials. The teen was released to his parents after he was cited.
Police and county deputy presence on the school campus will continue for the “foreseeable future, strictly as a precautionary measure.”
Gothenburg police are continuing to investigate, and the department isn’t releasing additional information at this time.
