Georgia man, 32, arrested in Lincoln with 100-plus pounds of pot

A 32-year-old man has been arrested and more than 100 pounds of marijuana seized during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in west Lincoln.

The Nebraska State Patrol said the East Point, Georgia, man was stopped around 9:20 a.m. Monday while driving a 2018 Ford Expedition near the U.S. Highway 77 interchange. The patrol said a trooper noticed that the eastbound Expedition was following too closely to the vehicle ahead of it.

During the traffic stop, the trooper smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, the patrol said.

The trooper searched the SUV and found several duffel bags filled with vacuum-sealed packages containing 114 pounds of marijuana, the patrol said.

The estimated street value of the marijuana is $342,000, the patrol said.

The search also turned up two dextroamphetamine pills, which are used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

The patrol said the driver was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and failure to have a drug-tax stamp.
