Class A State Legion Tournament National Division Basball

COLUMBUS- One team is celebrating after a nail biter in Columbus.

The 2018 Class A State Legion Tournament began at 1:00 Saturday in Pawnee Park. The Grand Island Home Federal took on Creighton Prep Five Points Bank, and what looked to be a blow out turned into a closely fought game.

Creighton Prep took a 1-0 lead early in the second inning as Noah Payton scored off of a fielders choice.

At the top of the fifth inning Creighton Prep took a 3-0 lead as Zack Firmature scores off a sacrifice bunt and Nate Witkowski scoring off of a line drive to right field.

Top of the sixth inning Creighton Prep took a 4-0 lead, but at the bottom of the inning Grand Island showed some life as they loaded the bases and scored two runs.

Coach Pat Mooney was pacing in the dug out in the seventh as Grand Island had two on base but could not score anymore runs.

Creighton Prep held on to win the divisional game 4-2 and will play in the winners bracket Sunday night at 7 P.M.
