Car Thieves Caught on Camera

BENNINGTON – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating at least one car break-in and car theft.

Residents believe thieves targeted their quiet Nebraska community, early Monday morning.

Gabrielle McCrery lives in the community, located in the Omaha suburb of Bennington; she says crime in the area is not a problem.

“To us [community residents] it’s a safe neighborhood, everybody loves each other and we are all good friends. We help each other when others need to be helped.”

One of the victims has a surveillance camera on the front of his house. Footage from that camera shows a man entering his vehicle.

In the surveillance video, a man rummages through the victim’s car with what appears to be a flashlight, while another person stands nearby.

The suspected thief did not take anything from that car, but neighbors were not as lucky.

A woman who lives in the Bennington community confirmed thieves took her 2013 Nissan Altima.

As of Tuesday afternoon, authorities have yet to recover the stolen vehicle.

If you have any information that will help the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office find the people involved in the incident, call their tip line at 402 444-6000.
