Marie Hingst, 103, of Emerson, Nebraska died on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Heritage of Emerson Nursing Home in Emerson, Nebraska.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson; Pastor Patti Meyer will be officiating.  The visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery of Emerson.  Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and Heritage of Emerson Nursing Home.  Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Emerson is in charge of the arrangements.

Marie was born on April 14, 1915, in Emerson, Nebraska, the daughter of August and Emma (Dellin) Reher.  She was confirmed on May 5, 1929 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson, and was united in marriage to Harland Hingst on February 6, 1936 at her parents’ home near Emerson, NE.  To this union eight children were born; Marlan, Lelan, Verlan, Dennis, Rollan, Reta, Diane and Carolyn.  They lived on a farm near Emerson where she helped with the farming, raising hogs, chickens and working with her large garden. They later retired into Emerson.  Harland passed away on November 24, 1991.  She entered Heritage of Emerson in 2014.

Marie was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she was active with the WELCA and quilting. In her time quilting at church she completed over 2000 quilts.  Marie also enjoyed going to the Emerson Senior Center.  Most of all, she loved the time she was able to spend with her family and attending her grandchildren’s activities.

Marie is survived by her daughters, Reta (Jim) Bodwell of Pilger, NE, Diane (Dave) Jensen of Stanton, NE, Carolyn (Dean) Sievers of Holdrege, NE; sons, Marlan (Judy) Hingst of Emerson, Verlan (Vicky) Hingst of Allen, NE, Lelan Hingst of Concord, NE, Dennis (Ida) Hingst of Holdrege, NE, 32 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren and 23 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harland, son Rollan “Shorty” Hingst, and daughter-in-law’s Dorothy and Judy Hingst.
