Memorial Services for Mabel Sommerfeld, age 94, of Wayne, will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne on Friday at 10:30 a.m.  Memorial Visitation will be at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne on Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with family present.  Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne.  She passed away on Monday at Country View Care in Wayne.  Memorials may be directed to Mabel’s family for later designation.  Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.

Mabel Anna Sommerfeld was born May 25, 1925, to Albert and Louise (Wittler) Brader, on her parent’s farm near Wayne.  She was baptized and confirmed at Theophilus Evangelical Lutheran Church near Winside.  She attended rural school, received her high school diploma and her Masters in Custodial.

Mabel married LeRoy Johnson January 23, 1942, at Theophilus Church near Winside. They farmed south of Winside.  In 1951, the couple moved to a farm northwest of Wakefield, where they lived for nearly 39 years.  LeRoy passed away in 1979.  Mabel married Roy Sommerfeld, August 28, 1981, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wayne.  The couple lived in Wayne.  Mabel was employed as a custodian at the Wayne State College Library from 1980 until 1995.  She was later employed in custodial work at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Robert and Mary Y. Benthack Wayne City Library, and the Pizza Hut in Wayne.  She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, past President of Lutheran Church Women at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, member of American Legion Auxiliary, and past President of Wayne County Lutheran Brotherhood for eight years.

Mabel is survived by one son, Richard  (Janice) Johnson of Wakefield; one daughter, Betty Ann (Jerry) Wyatt of Pilger;  three stepchildren, Cynthia Jorgensen of Lincoln, Ed Sommerfeld of Seward, and Kirk (Ardie) Sommerfeld of Wayne; one step-daughter-in-law, Judy (Sommerfeld) Sloup of Seward; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul (Janice) Brader of  Norfolk, Herbert Brader of  Oakland;  sisters, Josephine Hogan of Sioux City, IA and Gladys (Brader) Dooley of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law, Adelia Brader of Norfolk;  nieces and nephews.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, LeRoy Johnson in 1979 and Roy Sommerfeld in 2004; daughter, Mary Lynn in 1968; stepson, Jim Sommerfeld; two brothers, Marvin Brader and Kenneth Brader; sisters, Neva Lorenzen, Arline Hammer, Lenola Kramer, and Viola Junck; sisters-in-law, Virginia Johnson, Violet Johnson, and Dorothy Brader.
