James (Jim) J. Kenny was born March 28, 1953, to Merlin and Margaret (Woods) Kenny. He was the second oldest of their seven children. Jim grew up on the Woods’ family place west of Carroll. He attended Country School, District 56. While in Wayne High School, Jim participated and lettered in football and baseball. He was a member of the state champion baseball team in 1968 and 1970. Jim graduated Wayne High School in 1971.  He attended Wayne State College for a year, and then he took off to explore the U.S. He lived in lots of places and worked different jobs for several years.

Jim went into the dairy business with his brother Joe for fourteen years. After Jim left the business, he purchased the Thelma Woods’ property and a semi-truck. He did long distance trucking for several years before retiring.

Jim was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved to participate in, watch, and discuss all aspects of football, basketball, baseball, and golf. In his retirement, Jim played thousands of rounds of golf, making many close friends that way.

Jim enjoyed shopping for gifts for the Kenny gals for Christmas. He found some items at truck stops, and even brought back jewelry from Hawaiian vacations. He was very dedicated to his family and friends.

Jim received a cancer diagnosis in February of this year, and fought fiercely to live. Taking his cancer treatment religiously, in March he experienced a miracle and for a few months lived life as he wanted. He was brave and determined to survive, but unfortunately the cancer returned, and it was out of his hands. Jim lost his brave battle.

Preceding Jim in death were his father Merlin Kenny, brother Rick Kenny, niece Jade Siefken, and nephew Wayne Gearhart, as well as two special cousins Doug Kenny and Tim Reimers.

Survivors include his mother Margaret Kenny of Wayne, siblings and spouses Ruth & Mike Gearhart, Omaha, Sally & Arnie Siefken, Jamestown, ND, Jill and David Jones, Caldwell, ID, Joe & Kelly Kenny and Bob & DiAnn Kenny, all of Carroll. Added to that are fifteen nieces and nephews and twenty great nieces and nephews. Ron Janke was a very close friend of Jim’s, especially helping him in countless ways this past year.
