Private Committal Services For Don E. Volwiler age 82, of Carroll, will be held at

Elmwood Cemetery in Carroll with Military Rites. No Public Visitation will be held.

Memorials may be directed to  Don’s family for later designation.  He passed away Sunday at the Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel. Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.

Donald Gene Volwiler was born December 21, 1937, on the family farm west of Carroll to Clarence and Ardith (McKinsey) Volwiler.  He was a 1956 graduate of Carroll High School.  Don served in the United States Army from January 8, 1957 to January 7, 1963.  Don married Arlene Asmus and the couple farmed in the Carroll area until Arlene’s death. On March 5, 1976, Don married Janet Wagner – Schmidt in Omaha.  They operated a dairy farm near Carroll and Don was later employed at the Madison Pork Plant.  He later began working for Wayne County operating a road grader for 23 years before retiring.  Don was a member of the United Methodist Church in Carroll and the Carroll American Legion.  He enjoyed his time spent at the Providence Wellness Center, hobby time with antique John Deere tractors, and talking politics with friends and neighbors.  His greatest love was for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife, Jan; children, Todd (Julie) Volwiler of Carroll, Troy Volwiler of Wayne, Bill (Wendy) Schmidt of Wayne, and Deanna  McCoy of Belden; five grandchildren; seven   great-grandchildren; siblings, Joyce Harmeier of Norfolk, Norma Lee Stoltenberg of Norfolk, Dwain (Elinor) Volwiler of Norfolk, and Alan Volwiler of Omaha, nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Arlene; daughter, Kelly Volwiler; son, Tim Volwiler; son-in-law, Rick McCoy; sister and in-laws, JoAnne (Loren) Stoltenberg, Don Harmeier, Dale Stoltenberg, Arlene Volwiler, and Susan Volwiler; and a nephew, Rick Harmeier.
